Explore local ancient geological rock formations.
The rocks in the region are amongst the oldest rocks in the world at over 2.7 billion years old. A wonderful feeling of timelessness is often felt by visitors as they travel through this vast landscape. As you drive the Outback Pathways you will be struck by the amazing rock formations the area entails; rich red breakaway ranges and impressive granite boulders dot the vast fields of scrub land. One of the most prominent of the Murchison's ancient rocks is Greenstone which forms winding ranges and hills throughout the Gascoyne Murchison Region. Granite is the most abundant rock type and most of the granites in the area range in age from 2.6 billion to almost 3 billion years old.
While you are staying at Nallan Station, plan to spend a morning or afternoon at our local geological site The Breakaways.
Situated on the Nallan Station property, The Breakaways is a wonderful area to explore with open caves and stunning scenery with a view from the top. We recommend allowing a minimum of 3 hours to get there, explore and get back to the Station.
For more details on how to get there, chat with our Camp Hosts or visit the Camp Kitchen noticeboard. Please register with us before heading out.
